DPIFF Denounces False Allegations, Reaffirms Commitment to Indian Cinema

Festival Responds to Unfounded Claims

The Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival (DPIFF) has firmly responded to recent false and malicious allegations directed at the organisation and its leadership. Terming the accusations baseless, DPIFF has suggested that these claims are part of a deliberate attempt to damage its reputation.

Extortion Attempt Preceded Allegations

Leading up to the highly anticipated ceremony scheduled for 20th February 2025 at Taj Lands End, Mumbai, the festival encountered an extortion attempt. Certain individuals allegedly issued threats to disrupt the event. When their demands were not fulfilled, they retaliated by levelling false allegations against DPIFF Managing Director Mr. Anil Mishra and CEO Mr. Abhishek Mishra.

Postponement Due to Security Concerns

As tensions escalated, the safety of team members and distinguished guests became a priority. Owing to these serious security threats, the organisers made the difficult decision to postpone the ceremony.

Legal Proceedings and Clearance in Process

Following the incident, DPIFF’s legal team promptly challenged the fabricated claims. The matter was placed under judicial review, and the Bandra Police Station is currently processing formal clearance documents affirming the clean antecedents of both Mr. Anil Mishra and Mr. Abhishek Mishra.

CEO Reiterates Festival’s Core Mission

In an official statement, DPIFF CEO Mr. Abhishek Mishra stated: “Since its inception, Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival has stood as a proud torchbearer of India’s rich cinematic legacy, committed to celebrating artistic excellence. Recent challenges only strengthened our resolve. We upheld the truth with dignity and are grateful to the Indian judicial system for reaffirming it. To every artist, filmmaker, and cinephile, thank you for your unwavering support. We now look forward to an even bigger and brighter celebration of Indian cinema and the artists that make Indian cinema what it is.”

Public Urged to Avoid Rumours

DPIFF has appealed to the public and members of the creative community to disregard misinformation and rumours. The festival reaffirmed its dedication to honouring cinematic brilliance and giving Indian cinema a global platform.

Festival Set to Return Soon

DPIFF has announced that plans for the celebration of Indian cinema are underway and will soon be unveiled. The team remains focused on delivering a grand event that continues the legacy of Dadasaheb Phalke and honours the true spirit of Indian filmmaking.
