‘Metro…इन दिनों’ continues to spark excitement with its heartfelt narrative and standout cast, and amidst the buzz, veteran actress Neena Gupta opens up about the joy of reuniting with long-time collaborator Anupam Kher. The film, helmed by acclaimed director Anurag Basu, recently launched its soulful track ‘Zamaana Lage’, which along with the trailer, has set high expectations for the much-anticipated final installment in Basu’s hyperlinked trilogy.
A Reunion Built on Trust and Experience
Speaking candidly about her working experience with Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta shared, “I have worked with Anupam before. We’ve done a play together for a long time so it’s very familiar ground.” Describing their dynamic as “a great give-and-take relationship as actors,” she emphasized the ease and mutual understanding that exists between the two.
Gupta particularly highlighted how Kher’s spontaneous creative instincts added depth to their scenes. “Suddenly he will come up with a great idea – little nuance, little small things which just change a lot about the emotional part of the scene,” she noted, reflecting on how such subtle inputs brought emotional authenticity to their characters. “This was the one part which I really really enjoyed while working with Anupam Kher.”
A Film Pieced Together in Emotion and Time
While reflecting on the filmmaking process, Neena revealed that the nonlinear schedule posed a unique challenge. “We shot in bits and pieces—‘tukde tukde’ mein—so I didn’t realise how much I had actually done until I sat for dubbing,” she said. “That’s when it all came together and I thought, ‘Oh wow, I’ve done quite a bit in this film!’” Her experience resonates with many actors who often discover the full emotional arc of their character only during post-production.
An Ensemble Cast and Stories That Resonate
‘Metro…इन दिनों’ brings together an extraordinary lineup including Aditya Roy Kapur, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sen Sharma, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Ali Fazal, Saswata Chatterjee, and of course, Neena Gupta and Anupam Kher. Each pairing explores modern relationships in a way that feels both personal and universally relatable.
Following the emotional beats of urban life, love, and human connection, the film continues Anurag Basu’s signature style of storytelling through interlinked narratives, a format that has earned him both critical acclaim and audience affection.
