The 13th edition of Rajnigandha presents Jagran Film Festival 2025, recognised as the world’s largest travelling film festival, continues to unite artists, audiences, and conversations that celebrate the evolving spirit of Indian cinema. On Day 3 in Delhi, acclaimed filmmaker and actor Rajat Kapoor, known for Ankhon Dekhi, Kapoor & Sons, and Dil Chahta Hai, took part in the session “In Conversation: Rajat Kapoor & Radheshyam Pipalwa” ahead of the premiere of his film Putul, which was screened immediately after the discussion.
On the Struggles of Filmmaking
Sharing his perspective on the realities of filmmaking, Kapoor admitted, “Most of my time is spent looking for money to make a film, and that’s the most tedious, exhausting part of it.” He contrasted this with the creative joy of writing, which he described as “great fun.”
The Joy of the Creative Process
Kapoor elaborated on the different stages of filmmaking, calling each one unique and fulfilling in its own way. “Writing is a solitary joy, shooting is a beautiful chaos with 120 people, and editing is a quiet, intimate process. There isn’t a part of filmmaking that I don’t love,” he said.
A Glimpse into the Artist’s Journey
The candid reflection provided audiences with an intimate look into Kapoor’s artistic journey, revealing both the challenges and the passion that drive his work in cinema.
